We’re not even done with January yet and Samsung has already dropped its latest flagship, the Galaxy S21 series.
Every beginning of the new year is a fresh start for Samsung, which has once again set the bar when it comes to high-end flagship Android smartphones. The three devices are the base Galaxy S21, the higher-end Galaxy S21+, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra. To sweeten the deal, all three devices are also 5G-enabled, and will be the perfect accompaniment to its other new offering: The Galaxy Buds Pro wireless earphones.
What’s great is that all three devices feature a brand-new design, something that is entirely different from what we’re used to from last year. This is the Contour Cut camera design, which seamlessly blends together with the metal frame of the device. Turning it to the front reveals the edge-to-edge Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O display, which also features an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.
Samsung also wants to protect your vision with its new Eye Comfort Shield. This AI-enabled feature studies your usage patterns and adjusts the blue light according to the time of day, the content you’re viewing, and your bedtime. Of course, all three smartphones vary according to size. The base Galaxy S21 model features a 6.2-inch display while the Galaxy S21+ has a much larger 6.7-inch screen. As for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it only has a minor upgrade to a 6.8-inch display.
Moving onto the fun part, cameras. Ever since mobile photography has been a thing, smartphone brands have been trying to one-up the competition. Samsung has always been one of the frontrunners when it comes to mobile photography and it’s evident today with its latest line-up.
Both the Galaxy S21 and S21+ have the same triple-camera setup — a 12MP ultra-wide and wide-angle lens as well as a 64MP telephoto lens. Both devices also feature 30x Space Zoom for even greater close-ups from further away. On the front, there is a 10MP Dual-Pixel AF shooter.
As for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it sports a quad-camera system — there are two telephoto lens at 10MP (with 3x optical zoom) and 20MP (with 10x optical zoom) respectively. There’s also a whopping 108MP wide-angle lens with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and an ultra-wide 12MP lens. Space Zoom is also available on the Galaxy S21 Ultra with up to 100x. Lastly is its front-facing camera, which is a 40MP lens… just because.
Moving onto the software, all Galaxy S21 devices will have Android 11 OS built-in. But there’s more to it than just that. First off, both the Galaxy S21 and S21+ Will have 8GB RAM with 256GB of storage while the Galaxy S21+ Ultra has two choices between either 256GB or 512GB.
All three devices are certified with Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 capabilities, ensuring that your device is juiced up in no time at all. What does differ are the battery sizes with the Galaxy S21 having only 4,000mAh while the S21+ is at 4,800mAh and the S21+ Ultra is at 5,000mAh. Other top-notch features also include ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and facial recognition technology, IP68 waterproof rating, and even Wi-Fi6 connectivity.
The Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and the S21+ Ultra are available for pre-order now. The Galaxy S21 goes for S$1,248 in four colours of Phantom Pink, White, Grey, and Violet. For the S21+, it goes for S$1,498 with choices of Phantom Silver, Black, or Violet. Lastly, it’s the S21+ Ultra. There are two price points: S$1,798 (256GB) and S$1,998 (512GB) with only two colour choices: Phantom Black or Silver. For more info, head over to Samsung Singapore’s website.
