Who won big at the SAG Awards 2021?
The 27th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony took place on April 4, 2021. Like many other award shows, the pandemic led to major changes in the presentation which included cutting down the duration to 60 minutes instead of the usual two hours. The show was entirely pre-recorded; there was no red carpet and no host.
Announcements were made in 15 categories including films and television. For the first time in SAG’s history, persons of colour won the top four acting honours. Korean actress Youn Yuh-jung, who won the award for the best female actor for her supporting role in Minari, became the first Asian and the first Asian woman to win in any individual SAG motion picture category.

Interestingly, last year, all of SAG’s acting winners took home the Academy Award as well. Overall, Netflix was the major gainer scoring wins for its movies and TV shows, including The Queen’s Gambit, Ozark and The Crown.
