MyDeal taps Redbubble project director for new marketplace

Online marketplace MyDeal this week announced it had appointed Sam Pinney as the product director for its new ‘experiences’ marketplace Amazed.com.

Pinney previously worked in a similar role for five years at Redbubble, making him an ideal candidate for the position.

According to MyDeal, Pinney has a wide area of expertise, from technology, e-commerce, and the experience market at large.

“Utilising the existing MyDeal marketplace technology is a real head-start and the open architecture of the marketplace is a key feature, which we expect will allow us to quickly scale up the number of experiences available,” Pinney said.

Booktopia board shuffled

Online book retailer Booktopia’s non-executive director Marina Go resigned from the company’s board as of 31 March.

Go said she is exiting the board to better serve as the chairperson at Adore Beauty, and to fulfil other obligations.

“Booktopia has become a leader in the Australian book industry because of their dedication to customers. I wish them all the best in the future,” Go said..

Go’s departure makes way for Judy Slatyer (pictured), who will be joining the board as an independent non-executive director, subject to background checks and documentation.

Chairperson Chris Beare welcomed Slatyer, stating her enthusiasm, integrity and honesty will fit well with Booktopia’s culture.

Slatyer previously worked as the chief executive at Lonely Planet, as well as Australian Red Cross, and also served as the COO of World Wild Fund for Nature in Geneva.

“There are not many Australians who have successfully run companies in the book industry and also have the breadth of Australian and international experience that Judy has,” Beare said.

Telstra chief executive announces retirement, replacement

Telstra chief executive Andrew Penn announced his retirement from the telco this week after seven years at the helm.

According to chairperson John Mullan, Penn has spent his time at Telstra driving a focus on digitisation, as well as an investment on 5G.

“In recent years, not only has Andy ensured the successful delivery of our T22 commitments, he has provided leadership at what has truly been an extraordinary time, as we have navigated both as a company anda nation through the challenges of the pandemic,” Mullan said.

The business’ current CFO, Vicky Brady, will step up to replace Penn on 1 September.

Brady joined Telstra in 2016, and has also worked as the business’ group executive for consumer and small business.

“[Brady] has played a key leadership role in the development of Telstra’s T25 strategy, and is well placed to lead the company through its next phase,” said Mullen.

“She could not be more qualified to take over the reins.”
