Prince Philippos is the godson of (among others) King Juan Carlos I of Spain, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh and Diana, Princess of Wales.
It was the first Greek Royal Wedding to be held in Athens in 50 years. Prince Philippos, youngest son of King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie wed Nina Flohr, a Swiss airline heiress at the Metropolitan Theater in Athens.
The celebration was warmly watched by (masked) Greeks in the crowd, with loud cheering when King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie arrived.
This is notable because the Greek royal family doesn’t have a throne. The monarchy was abolished in 1974, and the family relocated to London, where most of them still live today, except for the King and the Queen who now live back in Greece (fun fact, the family is an offshoot of the House of Oldenburg, making them members of the Danish royal family albeit with no succession rights.
The King and Queen are third cousins and the King’s sister is the former Queen of Spain).
Prince Philippos was born in London, with a who’s who list of royals as his godparents, among them his uncle, the former King Juan Carlos I of Spain, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh and Diana, Princess of Wales. He graduated from Georgetown University in 2008 with a degree in International Relations and works as an analyst in New York City.
Nina Flohr is the daughter of Thomas Flohr, founder of VistaJet, and Katharina Konečný, who is a former Creative Director of Fabergé and EIC of Russian Vogue. Flohr founded and is the creative director at the Kiwasa Sanctuary (a luxury destination stay) and the Bazaruto Center for Scientific Studies (a center for environmental conservation) located on Benguerra Island, Mozambique. Her friends include a couple of Bright Young (European) Things, like Margherita Missoni and Bianca Brandolini D’Adda.
This was the third wedding for the couple: the first was a small COVID-19 necessitated ceremony in St. Moritz in December, and a dinner in London hosted by Baroness Alice Naylor-Leyland. For this big, final event, Flohr wore a gown from the Chanel 2021 FW Couture Collection and her new mother-in-law’s Antique Corsage Tiara. This piece has been worn by all royal brides marrying into the family, most notably by Marie-Chantal Miller when she wed Crown Prince Pavlos in 1995.
Other royals in attendance were the immediate members of the Greek Royal Family, the former Queen Sofia of Spain, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Prince Kyril of Bulgaria, Prince Ernst August, and Princess Ekaterina of Hanover, Prince Christian and Princess Alessandra of Hanover, and Princess Tatiana Radziwill.
