High society meets the country’s stars, forming power couples we love to see.
Celebrity pairings within show business are common, but having one with society members can be quite rare. After all, they seem to have opposite lives—one thrives in publicity and the other typically chooses to be low-profile. But love crosses all boundaries and these society and celebrity couples in the country prove it.
Victor Consunji and Maggie Wilson
The scion of the family in the construction and development giant DMCI Holdings met Wilson through common friends.
In an interview, the former Binibining Pilipinas-World reveals Consunji was persistent in winning her affection. From following her around to constantly sending messages (that she used to leave on-read), Consunji formed a strong friendship with her, and romance blossomed.
They got married in 2010 in Albay and in 2012, had a son they named Connor.
Daniel Miranda and Sofia Andres
Miranda is known as a race car driver with a couple of wins, having taught by his father, Martin, who is a motocross rider, karter, and drag-racer.
Miranda’s maternal grandparents are the Lhuilliers who established Cebuana Lhuillier Pawnshop. Philippe, his grandfather, was a diplomat, businessman, and the Philippines ambassador to Spain.
It was at a club in Taguig where Miranda and Andres first met. The actress, known for her roles in Bagani, Pusong Ligaw, and She’s Dating the Gangster, reveals it was difficult to maintain contact with Miranda. Her parents were initially wary of the racer’s ‘chickboy’ looks. But as they saying goes, first impressions never last.
Eventually, the two were able to confirm their relationship in public and announce to the world having their baby girl, Zoe.
Anton Lagdameo Jr. and Dawn Zulueta
Coming from the Floirendo clan in Mindanao, Lagdameo became a congressman in the 2nd district of Davao del Norte. He met Zulueta in their teenage years and eventually dated.
Although both of them were occupied with their respective careers—the family business for Lagdameo and show business for Zulueta, they worked hard for their relationship. Their love and commitment led to 23 (and counting) joyful years of marriage.
Felicia Hung and Kim Atienza
The president and CEO of Chinese International School Manila and Domuschola International School is also a powerhouse in the health and fitness industry. She shares this advocacy with her husband Atienza, well-known as “Kuya Kim” in his TV show Matanglawin and weather report segment in a news channel.
Their first meeting happened when Felicia was about to fly to London, on a mission to negotiate with Meryll Lynch which was pulling out of the country. Through a mutual friend, she came to know Atienza. Romance formed that the latter pursued her while he was in Europe as well.
As fitness enthusiasts, the couple works out to maintain their incredible physiques—journeys they proudly share on social media.
Chris Po and Nanette Medved
The Po family of Century Pacific Group maintains their position as Filipino billionaires even now in Forbes 2021 ranking. This is why it was a shocking move for Po to defy tradition when she married Medved in the ‘90s.
The former model-actress may be known for playing the superheroine Darna. But she also showed her intellectual prowess when she graduated summa cum laude with her degrees in finance and entrepreneurship from Babson College in Massachusetts.
Although Medved doesn’t fit the expectations of a typical Filipino-Chinese family that favors wives who shun publicity, the couple’s love toppled all the criticisms.
At present, as Po focuses on the family business, Medved does philanthropy work through Generation Hope that landed her on Forbes’ Heroes of Philanthropy in 2017.
