Peter Wright, nicknamed Snakebite, certainly caught the eye at Alexandra Palace on Tuesday.

The reigning PDC World Darts Champion chose to wear his boldest ever outfit for his second round clash against Steve West, channeling his inner Grinch.

The 50-year-old, who won the 2019 World Cup of Darts with Scotland, has been dressing to impress with the assistance of his hairdresser wife Joanne for much of his career.

Wright’s antics in dancing to Pitbull’s Don’t Stop the Party while taking the stage has been criticised by former world champions Adrian Lewis and Michael van Gerwen in the past.

His decision to become the Grinch was made all the more impressive by a custom face mask and fluffy gloves, as well as a full bright green outfit and dyed eyebrows and hair.

Former BDO World Champion Stephen Bunting tweeted in response: “Wow.

“What a walk-in by @snakebitewright really enjoyed that. The grinch playing darts. Never thought I’d ever see that.”

Golfer Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston then said: “How can you not love @snakebitewright.”

One follower wasn’t so excited, simply replying: “50 years old.”

Another said: “I respect the effort!! Only night with a crowd and he’s making an effort.”

A third added: “Class. Great effort especially with a few fans in!”

With a fourth stating: “How can you not like this guy.”

In a chat with the Times last year, Wright explained why he decided to go all out with his style after returning to the sport following a period as a labourer.

Wright said: “If I was playing again I did not want to be that typical European player, looking grumpy, playing and going home.

“I wanted to find something and I got it in the outfits and the crazy hair. I think the players who whinge about me are jealous.

“Phil Taylor said to me, ‘I wished I’d thought of that years ago — it’s brilliant’.”
