SINGAPORE: Member of Parliament (MP) Tin Pei Ling has been appointed the Director of Public Affairs and Policy at Grab Singapore.

The tech giant confirmed her appointment in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 1).

“Pei Ling has deep on-ground understanding of digital economy and smart nation policy, and close ties with the local community. She will build partnerships and programmes to harness the positive potential of technology to create impact in Singapore,” a spokesperson said.

Ms Tin, who started her role in January, was present at Grab’s Chinese New Year appreciation lunch for driver- and delivery-partners on Wednesday in her new capacity.

Prior to joining Grab, she had served as the chief executive officer at Business China, a Singapore non-profit organisation cultivating Singapore-China relationships, since May 2018.

She shared a LinkedIn post about two months ago on her last day at the organisation, but remains a board member, according to her profile.

Before that, Ms Tin was the group director of corporate strategy at Jing King Technology Group, which is now known as Adera Global. The firm deals with fintech solutions and smart technology. She was also a business and management consultant at Ernst & Young Advisory before entering politics.

Ms Tin was elected to Parliament in 2011 under the People’s Action Party, and is currently the MP for MacPherson SMC.

She is also the chairperson of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Communications and Information, and a member of the GPC for Culture, Community and Youth.

She is known for championing issues related to the elderly, youth, women and the digital economy.

CNA has contacted Ms Tin about her appointment.
