Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has built up a property empire said to be worth £12.5 million thanks to his savvy fiscal tips.

The 48 year old and his wife Lara, 41, have invested millions of pounds buying real estate in affluent north England towns like Wilmslow and Knutsford in Cheshire.

Martin, who is a regular guest on This Morning alongside Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby has given nearly £20million of his own fortune to charity over the last eight years.

His firm, named Osmium Estates Limited after a precious metal, has investments and property worth £12,462,726.

Last year the company submitted plans to turn offices in posh Wilmslow into 12 apartments.

And they have also requested planning permission to build seven, two bedroom homes on land nearby.

Martin – who went to the same Cheshire school as health secretary Matt Hancock – is estimated to be worth around £128 million.

He set up the website for around £100, selling it for £87m less than a decade later in 2012.

The financial journalist made the revelation after pledging to donate £10million.

Martin, who previously quit his role on Good Morning Britain, made the promise after his website was bought by the Money Supermarket Group in 2012 for an estimated £87million.

And now, eight years on, Martin has managed to more than double his target by donating £20million to charities.

Martin, who’s wife was recently robbed in a terrifying ordeal, shared the news in a blog report, where he detailed exactly where the funds had gone to and who it has helped over the years.

Writing on his website, he explained: “£11m is the total I’ve now put into charity funds, including Gift Aid (or equivalent). £2m of this was direct funding to Citizens Advice.

“£9m was put into a Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) fund. This works like a charity bank account – I control the money, but can only use it to make charitable-type donations…

“£7.9m of that £9m has now gone to specific charities, so that’s total donations of £9.9m so far when Citizens Advice is included.”
