The duchess is not alone in her quest for a chiselled upper body. Bryan Abril, personal trainer at royally-approved KX members gym, has seen an increase in his female clients requesting more muscular arms: ‘I think since there has been an increase in female roles in action movies, especially body transformation for a particular role. More people are beginning to appreciate a well-toned and defined body in women, arms especially are a body part you can show off proudly from all the work you have invested.’
In particular, Abril has found that women crave sculpted deltoids (shoulders) and triceps (back of the arms). ‘Exercises such as the traditional seated shoulder press with dumbbells, side raises with either dumbbells or cable machine and Reverse Cable Flys with bands will hit all three portions of the deltoids,’ he explains. To work out the triceps, meanwhile, a muscle that makes up a big portion of the arm, Abril explains that you can’t go wrong with double to single arm triceps extensions on a cable machine, body weight dips on either a bench or dip platform, and triceps kickbacks with dumbbells.
