Fresh from the Fendace swap – the surprise crossover that saw Fendi’s creative heads Kim Jones (ready-to-wear), Silvia Venturini Fendi (accessories) and Delfina Delettrez (jewellery) switching roles with Versace’s artistic director Donatella Versace – Fendi reignites buzz with another trailblazing tie-up.

Kim Jones sets the next milestone in the Roman maison’s evolution by joining forces with Kim Kardashian West’s solutions-driven SKIMS to extend Fendi’s universe to shapewear. “My Fendi is about creating something for every woman, every different shape – and that’s something at the heart of SKIMS too,” he points out.

“Both Fendi and SKIMS have a cultural power very different from each other, but equally as strong,” adds Kim Kardashian West. “We share a desire to push boundaries, think differently and challenge convention which is why we found so much common ground collaborating on this collection together.”

The joint endeavour incorporates SKIMS’ expertise in fit and form into Fendi’s distinction in luxury fashion, immortalising the union with an exclusive hybrid Fendi x SKIMS logo. “The innovation in fabrics and fit typical to SKIMS paired with luxury and quality of Fendi may feel unexpected to some people, but the similarities between our creative vision and goals are so closely aligned,” notes Kim Kardashian West. “It’s that tension that excites me.”

Here are five highlights of this phenomenal collaboration.

“The idea for the collaboration came about when my team and I were sitting around a table at the studio in Rome. Suddenly, all the women went silent and started looking ar their phones. I didn’t know what was going on, but they were waiting for the launch of the new SKIMS collection. It was then that I thought: let’s do something together,” Kim Jones explains the starting point of the collaboration.

History has a part in this collaboration. Legendary creative director Karl Lagerfeld’s archival sketches for a 1979 Fendi collection finds new currency as Kim Jones zooms in on his predecessor’s twisted tube tops and tight sashes in pops of colours, which add a fresh bold dimension to SKIMS’ signature gradient neutrals.

With SKIMS’ partnership, Fendi ups the ante in fabric innovation, crafting form-fitting silhouettes from high-tech materials designed to enhance curves such as bonded leather, velvet engineered for support, reversible skin-tight jersey or recycled nylon.

More than a limited edition collection, Kim Jones and Kim Kardashian West looked at a capsule wardrobe for the modern woman encompassing ready-to-wear, shapewear and hosiery, sportswear, beachwear as well as accessories. You will spot familiar Fendi favourites from icons Peekaboo and Baguette to rising star Fendi First (with fresh iterations), but the new one to eye is the shearling-wrapped hiking sandal that exudes laidback luxe.

The global launch is set on 9th November 2021, 9pm SGT on Fendi Skims and at select Fendi stores and retailers, which includes Singapore. But you can get first dibs – the Fendi boutique at ION Orchard is one of the four locations to hold a pre-launch with a special pop-up from tomorrow, 2 to 25 November 2021.
