The audacious Perles d’été high jewellery collection illustrates Van Cleef & Arpels’ mastery of ornamental stones and noble materials.

Brought to life with the brilliant hues of the sun and the ocean, Van Cleef & Arpels’ high jewellery collection Perles d’été is an ode to the enchanting landscapes of the Mediterranean. A combination of precious and ornamental stones, the vivacious line of 12 unique pieces are inspired by flamboyant cocktail jewellery of the 1960s and ’70s.

Brilliant blue turquoise contrasts beautifully against the radiance and warmth of yellow gold beads in striking expressions that draw attention from afar. Blending exquisite materials with exceptional savoir faire, necklaces in various styles, bracelets and rings are an invitation to bask in the radiant golden light of a glorious summer.

The Perles d’été collection unveils gemstone lots acquired by the maison several years ago. What makes them all the more precious is their precise shade matches since they’re all Mother Nature’s creations. A beloved material of Van Cleef & Arpels since the ’20s, turquoise is the star in this collection. Ten creations from this range feature the vibrant aqua stone of rare quality acquired from three batches unearthed in Arizona.

The 14 turquoise cabochons of the first lot present a smooth appearance without inclusions. Selected by the maison’s expert gemologists for their uniform azure hue, the stones are imbued with a softness evocative of Mediterranean landscapes. Carefully polished to enhance their glow, they adorn two necklaces, two bracelets and four rings in the collection.

The second batch comprises 19 cabochons of various sizes, set in a cascade on the Brume de Turquoise necklace that includes a detachable pendant. Perfectly matched, these stones exhibit an intense, consistent shade of blue and a mirror-like surface produced by meticulous polishing on both sides. The last batch features 39 turquoise beads with diameters ranging between 10mm and 23mm. These substantial dimensions, coupled with a dazzling, uniform tone, make for an exceptional set to be admired on the Lueur d’été transformable long necklace.

The Perles d’été collection also spotlights the beauty of coral. The Crépuscule d’été long necklace and bracelet illustrate two generous-sized, milky white coral buttons that have been cultivated via sustainable production methods.

The flashy, commanding aesthetic of cocktail jewellery is believed to have originated in the US in the ’30s. Such spectacular over-sized creations, especially boldly coloured rings, were worn by the most fashionable tastemakers at high society soirées.

Cocktail jewellery made its way back to the fashion world in the ’60s and ’70s, a period synonymous with bodacious and liberated lifestyles. Characterised by ample volumes, architectural styles and contrasting hues, the pieces were a blend of precious and ornamental stones, as well as organic materials.

Diamonds sparkled alongside turquoise and lapis lazuli; intense purple amethysts set off the tender peach tone of angel skin coral; while green agate, jet-black onyx and pink-orange coral seduced with new and brilliant harmonies.

Perles d’été reinterprets these codes for today by fusing bold creativity and virtuoso savoir faire. The result: statement jewels with an energetic, pop-infused edge.

Mentioned earlier, the Brume de Turquoise necklace, which evokes the resplendent Mediterranean landscape with a celestial twist and the sun’s glow, is the product of over 800 hours of painstaking work. It showcases a majestic array of 19 cascade-set turquoise cabochons of exceptional quality with a strikingly intense colour, generous volumes and smooth, mirror-finished surfaces.

Reminiscent of a serene sea under an azure sky, each cabochon is encircled by a border of golden beads that glistens in the light. Iconic motifs of the Perlée collection, these spheres of varying sizes also accentuate the detachable medallion that nestles perfectly in the hollow of the neck. Resembling the glow of a vivid
