Wearing a pretty sky blue coat-dress and a matching hat, the monarch appeared to be in high spirits as she smiled during the traditional ceremony, symbolically receiving the keys to the city from the Lord Provost, and watching a guard of honour provided by the Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Her fellow royals in attendance included the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, and daughter-in-law, the Countess of Wessex, elegant in a striking green dress by Suzannah London, accessorised with a summery hat with a light green ribbon.

On Tuesday, the Queen will carry out another engagement, attending an Armed Forces Act of Loyalty Parade in the gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Royal Communications announced that the event ‘will be an opportunity for the Armed Forces to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in Scotland, and pay tribute to The Queen’s role as Head of the UK Armed Forces.’

Other events taking place during Royal Week include a joint engagement with Prince Charles (who goes by his regional title, the Duke of Rothesay, when in Scotland), Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex (who are titled the Earl and Countess of Forfar in Scotland) and Princess Anne. The group will host a special Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Wednesday, welcoming guests who have made positive contributions to communities across Scotland.
