In 2021 from a gallery in Florence, 182 cuckoo clocks were emblazoned across a wall as part of the Gucci Garden Archetypes exhibition. Archive clothing was dotted around everyday objects and graffiti covered the walls in just one of many celebrations for the House’s 100 year anniversary. Now the exhibition is travelling to Australia where it will be on display in the harbour city of Sydney.
Envisioned by creative director Alessandro Michele the Gucci Garden Archetypes exhibition recreates some of the most seminal and conceptually adventurous advertising campaigns from the brand. Using cutting-edge technology, elaborate hand-crafting and innovative interior design, the immersive experience is sectioned into separate spaces to create a distinct narrative as visitors walk among the surprising curiosities.
The exhibition’s cinematic installations have travelled across the world to Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul. It will find its next home at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney’s inner-city suburb of Ultimo from November 17 to January 15. The perfect air-conditioned escape from La Niña. Admission is free but we suggest booking a ticket, here.
The announcement arrives just weeks after the unveiling of Gucci Twinsburg at Milan Fashion Week, where the creative director sent 68 identical twins down the runway. According to the designer it was a dedication to his twin mother who “were able to comprehend life only through the presence of the other”.
While no identical twins may be present on this occasion the forthcoming exhibition is expected to be just as spectacular.
