First came the Oprah Winfrey interview, which caused quite a media stir after its release in 2021. Then came the Duchess of Sussex’s in-depth profile written by The Cut magazine, in which she discussed her plans to return to social media and her current relationship with the Royal Family. Now, a new interview with Meghan, conducted by Variety magazine, has revealed further revelations about the duchess. From what to expect from her and Harry’s upcoming docu-series to being a ‘nerdy American mom’, Tatler investigates the key takeaways from the interview.

Meghan views the late Queen as a ‘shining example’ of female leadership

Meghan is apparently ‘really grateful’ that she was able to be with her husband during the aftermath of Queen Elizabeth II’s death last month. Ever the vocal feminist, during her most recent interview she revealed that the late monarch was a ‘shining example’ of female leadership, who left a ‘beautiful legacy’ in her wake. Meghan added that she felt fortunate to have had ‘a nice warmth with the matriarch of the family’.

She and Harry are trusting another person to ‘tell their story’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have long been in discussions with Netflix regarding a docu-series exploring their relationship and life in the Firm. This year, it was announced that a series of such a nature would be released by the platform, although reports have recently circulated announcing that the project would be postponed until next year. In conversation with Variety, Meghan discussed the upcoming series, saying: ‘It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story’. She reveals she has ‘long admired’ the director, Liz Garbus, who will illustrate their experience ‘through her own lens’. The duchess also revealed that making the series had been ‘really fun’, and that she had enjoyed ‘being around creative energies again’, having worked in the industry previously.
