1. Atlanta

Atlanta, the state capital of Georgia, is known for being cool and creative, but did you know that it is also an incredibly romantic city too? There is no need to leave the centre to enjoy a romantic getaway. All you have to do is to book into one of the most romantic hotels in the city and then make a reservation for one of the most romantic restaurants in your favourite neighbourhood. That’s a recipe for a great date night right there. But you can up the romance factor by planning a few activities for a fun couple’s day and night out. How about starting your day with a hand-in-hand walk somewhere scenic and secluded? You can then follow this up with some of the most romantic things to do in the city. 2. Marietta

If you do want to get out of the city and drive to a romantic getaway, Marietta is a wonderful city northwest of Atlanta. It is just a short 30-minute drive away. It is famous for its historic town square, five National Register Historic Districts, leafy parks and dramatic mountain landscapes. So, it is ideal for couples who like history, heritage and heart-sweeping scenery.

3. Helen

Located 92 miles away, roughly a two-hour drive, is the town of Helen. What is so endearing about this town is that it is built in the style of a traditional Bavarian German village. Visiting Helen, with its colourful wooden buildings and quaint Alpine charm, is like stepping into a pop-up fairytale book. Up the romance factor by exploring the city in a horse-drawn carriage. It makes for a fun and memorable date.

4. Madison

Located just 60 miles (about a one-hour drive away) is magical Madison in Morgan County. This charming city is famous for its gorgeous historic architecture; it is on the antebellum trail. Take a walking tour to learn more about these houses and the region’s history. Madison is also great for foodies because it has some terrific restaurants that champion local cuisine. When it comes to accommodation, there are some luxurious, upscale places to stay, including spa hotels where you can enjoy some couples’ pampering and massages.

5. Dahlonega, Georgia

Located some 67 miles away, you can reach Dahlonega by car in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. This small city in northern Georgia has a wonderful mix of colonial, Native American, Gold Rush and Civil War history. It also has a thriving art scene and is situated right next to a forest. Therefore, there are plenty of trails nearby for those who want to get out in nature, and lots of gorgeous scenery to admire too.

6. Sautee Nacoochee

Located 92 miles away, it takes about two hours to reach Sautee Nacoochee from Atlanta. Sautee Nacoochee is a small, unincorporated area and an ideal destination for couples to cosy up in the romance of mountain scenery and postcard-perfect views. For a romantic day out, pack and picnic and hit the wide variety of trails in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Our favourite trail is the one that leads to the picturesque Anna Ruby waterfalls. This has to be one of Georgia’s most romantic spots.

7. Adairsville

Located just 60 miles or one and a half hours away from Atlanta is Adairsville. This town has plenty of history and heritage hotspots, as it was the first Georgia town to be listed in its entirety on the National Register of Historic Places. As you stroll around downtown, you’ll see many of the intact historic buildings, including the original train depot. This was part of the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862. Adairsville is also known for the beautiful Barnsley Gardens, an elegant 1840s estate where you can enjoy horseback riding and a round of golf. If that is too active, you can just relax and indulge in the wonderful spa treatments, food, and drink.
