If there’s ever been a good time to treat yourself, it might just be this month.
Nothing sends us into a tizzy more than indulgent new releases in the beauty industry. After all, who can say no to a brand new perfume by Diptyque or new lip colours that are inspired by Louboutin’s famous soles.
Things are looking just as good on the skincare front; Shu Uemura has borrowed one of Japan’s biggest exports for its latest cleansing oil, while Hera has dived into the world of probiotics for a new game-changing essence. If you’re still a fan of staying home, there are candles that will transform your entire space into a floral oasis of calm.
Here are the beauty launches we love this month.
Laneige Neo Cushion
You might have gotten your SPF down pat but chances are you’re in front of your smartphone or laptop more than under the sun these days. For this, Laneige has two new cushion foundations in the Neo Cushion series that offers blue light protection, an especially useful addition to your makeup routine since blue light penetrates into the skin more deeply than UV rays. The Matte version sees a 24-hour sweat-resistant formula that regulates sebum and offers medium to full buildable coverage, while the Glow option lends a healthy shine with niacinamide and Liquid Diamond powder. Expect dewiness that lasts up to 24 hours.
Available islandwide from 1 September at all Laneige boutiques and counters, Laneige Official Mall on Lazada, Shopee, Zalora and Sephora.sg.
Hermès L’Ombre des Merveilles
Since it was launched in 2004, Hermès has been transporting people on an air of poetic enchantment with Eau de Merveilles and its variations. This year, the Maison explores the contrast of light and shade with L’Ombre des Merveilles. Housed in a rocking bottle — to reflect the poetry of the world through a magnifying glass — the genderless fragrance reveals top notes of black tea before giving way to hints of incense, and finally culminating in the warm, sensual aroma of tonka bean.
Designed in New Zealand with the aim of revolutionising the industry, Skinnies checks all the boxes when it comes to sunscreen. Made with the brand’s waterless Organogel technology (normal sunscreens are 50-70 percent water), the sunscreen forms a thin layer that bonds to your skin to hold the UV actives in place for longer. This eco-friendly and vegan option also rubs in clear and not white, so you won’t look like a mess. Besides, you’ll only need a pea-sized amount for your face, neck and ears, so it’ll last you much longer than the average tube.
Clarins Double Serum
Now in its eighth edition, Clarins’ iconic Double Serum sports its most potent formula since its first launch in 1985. The anti-aging serum now uses a seamless mix of oil- and water-soluble ingredients from 21 plant extracts such as turmeric, goji berries, glasswort, and horse chestnut, to stimulate the skin’s vital functions — from hydration and oxygenation to revitalisation. The fast-absorbing golden formulation reduces inflammation, moisture-loss and even acne and photoaging in the long run for smoother, firmer and more radiant skin.
The first 500 customers to purchase a bottle of Double Serum at Clarins boutiques will have a tree will be planted on their behalf as part of Seeds of Beauty’s reforestation project.
S$125 for 30ml; S$170 for 50ml
Shu Uemura Botanicoil
Taking inspiration from the Japanese tradition of indulging in healing yuzu baths on the day of the winter solstice, Shu Uemura’s newest member of the cult-favourite cleansing oil family is infused with the fragrant citrus and a potent blend of essential oils for the most relaxing cleansing experience you’ll ever have. The makeup remover also doubles as a base for a quick relaxing shiatsu massage — simply warm the Botanicoil in your hands, take the scent in with a deep breath, and sweep your fingers over your cheeks, temples and forehead at the end of a long work day.
Available at all Shu Uemura stores and online from 1 September.
S$65 for 150ml; S$165 for 450ml
Hera Cell Essence Biome Plus
Now in its third iteration, Hera’s first-step essence helps to not only deeply hydrate and bolster the benefits of subsequent products, but also balance skin for a luminous, healthy complexion. The new Biome Plus formula contains prebiotics and probiotics that strengthen and nourish the skin’s barrier. Because it’s a water-type essence, the Cell Essence Biome Plus is a dream to apply (especially with the brand’s new double-sided cotton pads) and removes build-up of dead skin cells and dirt simultaneously. Besides, we love that the brand is going eco-friendly with the refillable bottle design here.
Diptyque Othoniel Rosa Eau de Toilette
Diptyque’s latest fragrance is a romantic tribute to “La Rose du Louvre”, an original created by its namesake artist Jean-Michel Othoniel that honours a single vivid red rose painted by Rubens in ‘The Marriage of Mary of Medici and Henry IV’. Like his work, the queen of flowers is put on a pedestal here, combining the sensual fragrance of peppery rose with the spicy and slightly smoky woody scent of vetiver. The limited edition eau de toilette also features the artist’s work.
Miller Harris x McQueen’s Flowers candles
What happens when you pair a London perfumer with one of the most famous floral boutiques in the world? Miller Harris has partnered with McQueens (the official floral designer for Vanity Fair’s Oscars After Party for the last 25 years) to launch three limited edition scented candles. Each candle represents a different element of the flower designer’s bustling workshop whilst staying relevant to the purity of flowers and foliage; Petal Storm, for example, is a delicate marriage of white florals and pink pepper on an evocative base of amber and musk.
Rouge Louboutin Matte Fluids
Anyone worth their stilettos will know that Christian Louboutin is synonymous with red lacquered soles. This season, the recognisable crimson hue finds its way across the brand’s all-new Rouge Loboutin Matte Fluids range, with ten matte and five metal matte colours for any occasion. Each of the lip colours applies like a fluid and sets with a powdery finish, promising a deeply pigmented look that’s comfortable and non-drying on the lips. Of course it would be remiss if you didn’t have nails to match; the series sees five new nail colours to complete that chic matte look.
The Rouge Louboutin Matte Fluids will be available on available at TANGS & Tangs.com starting on 15 September.
S$134 (lip colour); S$80 (nail colour)
